Waterfront

Waterfront at Liverpool, with Liverpool One wheel in frame, colour HDR image

I wanted to get a photo of the Liverpool skyline with the Liverpool One wheel in it before it was taken down but only managed to get over to the Wirral on Friday night when it was very windy and the river was very choppy, so no nice reflections and I couldn’t get an angle to get the wheel without a building in front.

There’s going to be a new wheel in front of the Echo Arena but I think it’s a real shame that the Liverpool One wheel couldn’t have stayed where it was – it was a real attention grabber, a talking point and gave Chavasse Park some purpose.  The site in front of the arena is only going to afford a good view of, well, the Arena and the Albert Docks.  Interesting if you’ve only come to see a concert and have 15 minutes to spare but it’s not showing the city off in the best possible way  (having said that, if they build it side on in front of the Arena it’ll be a lot easier to see from the Wirral…:)

Say Hello & Wave Goodbye…

Girl stood alone, waving, Church Street, Liverpool

Taken in mid-March, this is another shot I wasn’t entirely happy with, mainly due to annoyance with myself!  I only had the one lens with me this day, an old 50mm that I don’t use enough and was trying to force myself to get acquainted with properly – would have loved to have seen this shot when I had the 10-20 with me!

Emergency Exit From Air Raid Shelter – Hockenhall Alley, Liverpool

Painted sign - Emergency Exit from Air Raid Shelter, Hockenhall Alley, Liverpool

Another feature (from the same wander about as the last shot) I’d never noticed despite walking it past it God knows how many times, found this painted sign in Hockenhall Alley off Dale Street.  I’ve gone for it with the processing here – loads of layers, textures etc – was going for a book cover type image.

Everybody loves you.. – Mathew Street, Liverpool

..when you’re six foot in the ground.” – John Lennon.  Alternative view of the John Lennon statue on Mathew Street.

Part of me suspects that I’m a loser… – Mathew Street, Liverpool

…and the other part of me thinks I’m God Almighty.” – John Lennon.  The ever popular statue on Mathew Street, captured in a rare moment without visitors hanging off it, it’s a wonder the thing stays up.

On a side note, I’ve had an idea in my head for a while that I’ve finally done something with…have a look at moosageinabottle.com if you get chance.

Closing Time – Chester

Man sat outside shop, with Closing Down sign in window, Chester, black and white image

This photo was actually taken in July ’06 but it seems very relevant given the economic nonsense currently going on.  The old fella looks like he’s been credit crunched.

Purple is a fruit – Chester

Next one of the Chester 50mm series – trying to get a high key look in this one.  This little kiosk is set into the Chester walls and used to do the nicest fresh doughnuts….just as well I don’t work in Chester any more!

Slight Return – Chester

Old lady staring into distance, Chester, black and white

I’ve been feeling a bit stuck in a rut photography-wise recently – I seem to be taking a lot of similar pictures of the same things – so I’ve been looking through my archives to have another look at some photos I’ve done nothing with in the past, looking at them with (hopefully) fresh eyes.

I took this photo in Chester the day after I got my 50mm – I was going to try street photography and somehow never seemed to get into it.  I’m fundamentally very shy and I think that’s what put me off – been thinking about doing something along the lines of the 100strangers project  to try and encourage myself to do it.  I followed Hobgrumbles attempt on Flickr (Hobgrumble is a very nice man who has given me lots of advice and guidance about film photography – a true gent.) and he seemed to enjoy it immensely.  Something to think about, anyway.

Puddle Boy – Exchange Flags, Liverpool

Ai Weiwei's Web of Light, reflected in a puddle, Exchange Flags, Liverpool

I’ve already done this picture sort of before here – but I wanted to go back with my 50mm and get the whole blurred/sharp thing going on…this one’s for you Joe!
